I'm your host,Andrew, and I'd like to wish you all a happy belated life day. Now, if you don't know what life day is or you new to theStar Wars Universe, that's okay, we're going to break it down in justa second. We are here to talk about the new Lego Star Wars holidayspecial that premiered on Disney plus on November seventeen, so a mere two daysago. Now, What's interesting right off the bat about this special is thatthey chose the exact same premier date as the original Star Wars holiday special innine hundred and seventy eight. So both premiered on November seventeen. That's yourfun fact number one. But what is life day? Life Day was originallyintroduced as a holiday in the one thousand nine hundred and seventy eight holiday specialfrom Star Wars. So in that special we see Han and chewy returning toChewbacca's home world of Kashiki, where the wookies celebrate life day and it's essentiallytheir version of Christmas. They gather together, they celebrate family, they exchange giftsand they all honor the tree of life. That is very central towookie culture and you can find entire back...

...stories of the Life Day celebration itselfonline. It was originally celebrated every three years and then it became an annualtradition, but the general consensus is that it is essentially the wookie version ofChristmas. Now they do have these like weird red life day robes, whichI guess you could equate to either like our ugly Christmas sweaters or like matchingfamily pajamas. But outside of that it's very Christmas ee. The original specialreceived a lot, a lot of bad press over the past forty two yearsand having watched it in preparation for the Lego special, I have to agreewith every bad thing that's been said about it. It was entirely cheesy, entirely can't be and you can find it for free on Youtube. It's anhour and a half. So if you if you've got an hour and ahalf to kill and you want to like get your mind sucked out through yourthrough your nose or your eyeballs or whatever, watch it. That said, itdid introduce the character of Boba Fette to the Star Wars Universe, sothat was fun and outside of that it really didn't do anything productive for StarWars. It takes place between episode four and episode five. We see Leiasing a life day themed song over the Star Wars theme song, which wasan odd choice to me, but I digress. So the Lego Star Warsholiday special a lot more fun, a lot more engaging. It is afamily friendly thing and it's only forty seven minutes, so it's half the runtime of the original special. That said, there aren't a lot of references tothe special other than the release date and the fact that they're returning toKashik to celebrate life day and they're waiting...

...for CHEWBACCA's family. Now, whilethey don't reference Chewbacca's family by name, when the Lego characters appear, forthose who have seen in the nineteen seventy eight special, you'll recognize chewy's wifeMala, his father itchy and his son lumpy. They are all they alllook like their original characters from the nineteen seventy eight special. So I thoughtthat was cool. But again, outside of that there's no real references tothe original special. Now what we do see is that this takes place afterthe rise of skywalker. Everybody's gathered together. Poe is way too excited about lifeday celebrations. He's got his bb a ugly Christmas sweater on. He'slike super pumped about decorations and cooking and all this other stuffy like wants tohave the best life day ever. Ray, on the other hand, is gettingreally frustrated because she feels that she is not being a good teacher. To fin she just can't figure out how to be a good Jedi master. She's read all the ancient texts and she just doesn't get it. So shegoes off on an adventure to it nearby gentle Jedi temple to figure out howto become a better teacher. While they're she discovers a key that sends herback in time or forward in time to a bunch of different star wars momentsthroughout history. So did Disney just confirmed time travel is possible in the StarWars Universe because, as we know, they say everything after their acquisition ofLucas Film in two thousand and fourteen is cannon, and this is very obviouslyafter two thousand and fourteen. So are we going to start seeing time travelin Star Wars? I don't know. What do you guys think? Letme know. So anyway, she goes through all these different these different timesin Star Wars history and it's a lot,...

...a lot of fun. I havea breakdown of pretty much everywhere she goes. And what's really cool aboutthe key itself is when she uses it she has to spin it in sortof this like circular motion and it opens up a portal and it looks somuch like Doctor Strange's slang rings. So if you're familiar with the avengers ordoctor strange, you'll know what I'm talking about, and I'm sure it wasdone intentionally because Disney owns both marvel and Lucasfilm, so it was probably intentional. But any WHO, here's a breakdown, a very quick breakdown, of thedifferent places that we see ray travel. She first travels to Dagaba, whereYoda is training. Luke from empire strikes back. Then we see herjump into phantom menace right before OBI WAN and Quigon Jin are gassed at thebeginning of the film, and I actually that was one of my top scenesfrom the movie because we see Obi Wan sort of banging his head against thetable, going boring, boring, boring. Who Cares about trade disputes, right? And if that just doesn't sum up everybody's feelings about the phantom menacein the first five minutes, then I don't know what does. But fromthere she jumps into an elevator scene somewhere in revenge of the sith. Thenshe jumps into the death start attack run from a new hope right into Luke'scockpit in red five. So that's fun. From there we see your jump intoreturn of the Jedi right before Darth vader heads down to collect luke fromthe enddoor moon. Now this scene becomes sort of the climax of the filmbecause Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine see the portal and emperor palpatine sort of throwsDarth vader into go after ray and a whole battle scene between ray and darthvader takes place Spanning Star Wars history. So again quick rundown of those sceneswe've got. They visit the battle of...

...hoth and empire strikes back. Thenthey visit the battle of Moostafar revenge of the sith. Then they make aspecial guest appearance at the end of season one of the Mandalorian so we seeMando and the assassin droid ig eighty eight fending off some storm troopers and asray and Darth vader sort of falling through the sky, they turn they seebaby Yoda and they were like Oh oh, that's so cute and then they continueon their fight. So from there they hit the pod racing scene inphantom menace. They hit I can't tell if it's the clone wars animated seriesor attack of the clones but we see to clone troopers on speeders and theyare voiced by the one and only D Bradley Baker, who, if youseen clone wars and you've seen rebels, you know he voices the clones inall those series. So that was cool. From there they go into the riseof skywalker, the very end with the scith fleet being attacked by thethe new republic, and then it ends with them landing on tattooing, rightat the beginning of new hope, where Luke comes out and he stares atthe twin suns. Now I liked this moment because throughout their battle, rightthroughout ray and Darth vader battling, they seem to be collecting all these starwars figures throughout time and it reminded me very much of bill and Ted's excellentadventure where they're going through and they're collecting all these historical figures for their historyreport at the end of the film. Right. That's very much what thisseemed like. So they land on the desert plains of tattooing and Luke islooking out over the Dune Sea at the twin suns. He's drinking a cartonof blue milk and as he pulls it away he's got a blue milk mustache, which apparently is a running gag in...

Lego, but we have in thisscene we see like four different Luke skywalkers, we see three OBI Wan Kenobi's,we see two Hans Solos and a darth Maul with no legs. Sorry, I had to put that in there. It's a holiday special, come on. But it was really cool because you get the the two Han soulosarguing over who's going to shoot Grito first, you see the three Obi Wan Kenobe'sall going Oh, hello that, and then you have darth Maul yellingcanobe. So anyway, epic good versus Evil Battle Continues and Ray and Darthvader continue about their time hopping sort of adventure battle thing. DARTH vader getshis hand on the keys and takes it to emper palpatine from return of theJedi and they decide to hop into the future. So this is where weget to see Darth vader and number palpatine interact with a shirtless kilo wren whohums his own theme song as he's introduced, which I laughed out loud at becausewhen I first saw the force away in two thousand and fifteen. MyFiance Hannah took me as a birthday gift, so we went. It was thefirst star wars film she had ever seen and we go and we seeit. I'm like in love because you know, Star Wars is back afterhowever many years, and a few months after seeing the film we're walking intotarget and you know how target has the automated sliding doors. Well, Hannahwalks into the target doors pushing her hands open like she's using the force, and as she does so, she starts humming the kilo rent theme song.I'm like, what are you humming? And she's like, are you serious? That's a Kylo rent theme. I'm like what? And I kid younot, like it was the kilo rent...

...theme and she had picked up onit before I had. And I'm like a die hard star wars fan,a diehard like music appreciation fan, and she had caught on to something afterwatching her first ever star wars film that I hadn't caught on to. Sothis scene just kind of made me chuckle a little bit more than it shouldhave, but it was still it was fun. But let's jump back tothe Millennium Falcon on Kashi because while while rays doing all this stuff, pois still really trying to kick off the Best Life Day party ever and hefeels like it's turning into a disaster. So Finnin rose help him set itup by getting all these other star wars characters to show up. So wehave Max Rebo who, if you guys are unfamiliar, is the Blue Elephantfrom job is palace who plays like the keyboards. We have him show up. We have Lando Calrissian, voiced by the one and only Billy D Williams, making his return as Lando. We also have Mas Canada from the newtrilogy. And what I thought was really cool was there was such a mixtureof like actual actors reprising their roles as well as actual voice actors reprising theirroles for this special. So we had de Bradley Baker as the clones, which I had mentioned, we had Billy d Williams as Lando, the actualactress who portrays rose in the new trilogy, Kelly Marie Tran. She voiced rose, and we have the OGE Anthony Daniels, reprising seat three perio yetagain. And then we had a bunch of the the animated series cast.So we had clone wars Anakin and clone wars Obiwan reprise their voice roles. So that's Matt Matt lanter and James Arnold Taylor respectively. They came back forthe special. The the guy who voices all of the Lego Emperor Palpatine's.He voiced emperor palpatine and the guy who...

...voiced vader has apparently done it twelvedifferent times for different movies, video games, specials, things like that. Sohe's probably one of the most prolific voice actors to do Vader, althoughJames Earl Jones is the goat. But I thought that was really cool. They even make a throw a jar jar banks reference and pose worried that thelife day party is going to be worse than a jar jar banks Senate speech. So jars are still remains the butt of most of the Star Wars jokesafter all these years. What I really liked about the specialty is that it'sjust good clean family fun, right. So like, obviously ray has thiswhole battle with Darth vader. They throw in return of the Jedi Luke Skywalkerand I believe the last Jedi, Kilo Wren and there's this epic battle sceneon the death star. Good triumphs over evil, ray sets everything right again, all is good in the world, and then she realizes that, youknow, the the skills that she had to be a good teacher all alongwere there. She just needs to be a good friend and accept fin andhelp him rather than try to be his master. So, you know, really cheesy ending there, but that's pretty much the only cheese that we hadin the film versus, you know, an hour and a half of itfrom one thousand nine hundred and seventy eight. So so I'll take this special overthe original special any day. In addition to Kylo Ren humming his owntheme, one of my favorite moments and of course, the Obiwan trade disputething. One of my favorite moments came when ray first goes back to Dagabaand Luke is being trained by Yoda. Yoda tells them to pull the xwing out of the swamp and he's like okay, I'll try, and Yoda'slike no, do or do not, there is no try, Luke says, well, you know, isn't?...

Isn't trying kind of like a goodthing, like shouldn't? I actually try and Yoda says participation trophies for Jedithere are not, and I may have found that moment funnier than I shouldhave. So I might have cracked up just a little too hard at it, but that was probably one of my favorite moments. So top three,I'm going to go Yoda and participation trophies, obiwan trade dispute and Kylo Ren humminghis own theme music. Those are probably my top three moments from thisshow. But I also really enjoyed the marketing campaign. So if anybody knowswho did the marketing campaign for this holiday special, tell me. I wantto shake their hand. In addition to the sort of traditional star wars posterthat we get with all the characters against the space backdrop, we had threespecific holiday themed posters, the first of which was probably my favorite. Itwas a red backdrop with a Lego hand tied with some ribbon and it saidto Luke from your father and wow, like that's something you can only getaway with if your lego right, because if it was a live action specialthat might not have played out so well, but the fact that it's Lego madeit work incredibly. I even saw a what I think is a photoshopof that poster on Reddit which featured a Lego hand and Lego legs and itsaid to Darth vader from your old friend, and very obviously that's a reference torevenge of the side Obi Wan cuts off Anakin's legs and arm. SoI chuckled it that. I thought that was funny. I don't think it'san officially sanctioned poster from Disney plus, though I'm going to go ahead andsay it's not. But if it is, great, like I loved it.Um the the other, the other holiday theme posters, you know, featured a Lego stormtrooper with a death star...

...ornament and then to Lego lightsabers thatkind of looked like Christmas tree lights. But the the hand was definitely myfavorite overall. I'm going to give this special for out of five chill points. I would have liked to see more references to the Oge holiday special becauseI'm a a massochist like that and I really like cheesy can't be references, but I think there were plenty of fun moments, plenty of quality of references. I loved the voice talent on here and I think if you have ayoung star Wars Fan, this is a great thing to just sort of puton get you into the holiday spirit, and there's a lot of great referencesfor the adults and for the parents who are who are lifetime star wars fans. I'm really excited for the Disney plus original Canobi series as well as thebad batch clone wars spinoff series that we're getting. I'm looking forward to bothof those.
